[diem's list] Season of changes redux...
"season of changes". In it, I talked about how our community has gone
through many changes, and as part of the process in changing was my
desire to see us as a community work together toward direct action
projects. I asked for you to go to EschFest, or alternatively buy a
raffle ticket. And you all came through in a big way.
A few select members of the community, spearheaded by Evil Dave,
created EschFest, to benefit the children of Nathan Esch, burner and
friend, who died after an accident at fourth of JuPlaya last year. As
a result of EschFest, over $4500 was netted. But what is the net
result? With $4500 in the bank, being guided by the best broker we
know, and with eight years to work on growing the account, we have
paid off a hefty chunk of the college funds for the boys. As a
community we provided what Nathan no longer could. And I am very very
proud to be part of *us*.
The second project I highlighted was Kipa Ana. Kipa Ana is this
Saturday! As mentioned before, all net proceeds are gong to a burner
founded non-profit organization, called C.O.L.O.R. Scott and Jen
Longheyer founded COLOR in response to the tsunamis of 2005. It is my
favorite kind of non-profit: direct action.

[diem's list] Kipa ana is next week/tattoo?
1) Kipa Ana is next week!
2) Tattoo trade anyone? Pass it on!
****************************************
Kipa Ana is next week! And we're getting excited around here! You can buy
pre-sale tickets at:
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/15508
Remember--100% of net proceeds go *directly* to fund tutoring programs for
Sri Lankan children. One year of English tutoring is only $240, and it
only takes one person in a family with a job speaking English to bring
them all out of poverty level.
You *can* directly make a difference!
**************************************************
I design websites as a side project, and am looking to barter tattoo work
for a website for you.
Generally I charge from $50/$100 hour, but would like to do a swap on a
hour per hour basis. If I spend 5 hours on your site, I get 5 hours
tattooing, if I spend 10 hours on your site, I get 10 hours tattooing, and
so on.
Want your site to look awesome?
Here are the sites I have made:

http://wafinancial.net
Also, "pgnew" is not yet live to the world (hence squirrel sex image
placeholders) as I am waiting for final images from the customer.
Keep in mind I don't create content, but can help a little in that area.
Also, as an added bonus, I can set you up with hosting for a year or show
you how to host it yourself.

Just what is Four Seasons? Four Seasons is the third event produced

Big Ass Clock, err, School House Rawk!
The now third place gig was opening for De La Soul in 1996 for 10,000. I'm sure I don't have to explain that one.
But this one....was something else. Chris and I started building the stage setup, a giant countdown clock, 20 feet across by 9 feet high, with the dj perched up top. I remember joking with Chris that we are the only ones in the city who were building their own stage for new years, and he laughed and smiled. Well, with Shawn Drew's kick-elf electrical skills, we had a giant countdown clock.
The night progresses beautifully, with Dj Stick yo hand in the dirt opening, Reggie Watts and Nordic Soul with Synthclub, and then having fauxfaux jump on with Chris--yay! It was the perfect setup--working hard to make the event, then being surrounded by your friends, and partying with the best talent in the city. My set was the best i could give, sweaty and pumpin', less on the latin, and heavy on the dirty bass. Thank you flight to mars for being part of my life! Yee haw!
BassNectar!
It was also, coincidentally, the first time I ever tried using my new Etymotic ear plugs, and they rock. If you're a dj -- get them. They cut 20db flat across the board!

XXX-Mas party!
This was the first of three holiday gigs, and was hosted by Michael Holden and Jen. Yeow...I think we were the only ones who escaped sober. This event was on Saturday the 23rd, a nice warm up to the holidays. His wrap up included a list of lost and found clothes, which when added up totaled three outfits. Ha!

This went better than I could ever hope for. The opening was awesome, and I got to play not only the brand new stuff, but also dug deep into the old crates for some deep house from back in the day....then as the show started, I scratched in samples of JFK speeches, Spider Man stories, and other sample records. It was an excellent performance by those cats, and many asked if we had ever performed together before. We hadn't at that point, it was all live. I look forward to making more music together when we play together when they return.

6ixth Burning Man
DSC_0015.JPG
Originally uploaded by dj_diem.
Burning Man, as always, was fun. I played Lemuria from 11-1am on friday night, and as with all camps sometimes you have 1 guy, sometimes 100, sometimes 1000. I loved this set in particular because I kept the one guy going for a while, then at midnight played the one song that I knew would get a grip of people on the dancefloor: Neilk Diamond's "America". Tee hee, only at Burning Man.
Saturday morning after the set I placed the ashes of my friend Nathan Esch in the base of the man. Then later that night I proposed to my long-time girlfriend Angel. She said "Yes!"....thanks dog.
