1. Got a wild hair? Come to San Diego next weekend! BWB Fundraiser!

Next week I am playing at the Burners Without Borders event in San Diego, called "Valentine's Day Massacre-ade". The event will be amazing -- it's being advertised all over San Diego, and features artists/band Soul In The Machine.  I am flying down early (I can't wait to see my old town again), however I have a friend in Seattle who is actually driving the 1,249 miles. He is looking for a co-pilot who will split gas. If you are interested, hit me back for info.

2. Global BWB event - I need help! This means you international peeps!

I am putting together a large-scale gobal benefit for Burners Without Borders, and I am looking for help. The positions will be very similar to these: http://vdaym.com/page5/page5.html

Interested? contact me offlist :-).

This is the original announce below:

Greetings!

You are invited to  participate in a fantastic project, BENEFIT Without Borders, a one-day, multinational event to support BURNERS Without Borders' (BWB) projects around the world.  We are hoping you will join us in this opportunity to build community by involving your city/region.

What is the history of Benefit Without Borders?

Jon Ray was one of the many volunteers who went to help out in the first incarnation of Burners Without Borders' efforts after hurricane Katrina. In November of last year, Jon led a volunteer team that produced a BWB fundraiser (www.bordertownsd.com) in San Diego. It went fabulously!  Jon and his crew raised around $3500 after expenses!!!!

After an inspired discussion, an idea was born to produce a multi-city BWB benefit. The goal? To connect all of these events together by broadcasting each city's event to one another all on the same day. With six cities and counting, we  are in the process of recruiting new locations and laying the groundwork for what is sure to be an amazing day!  We need people like YOU to step up and involve your city/region.

How does it work?

-- The event is July 18th, 2009.

-- It can be a small house party, a private event space gathering, or a large scale outdoor event.

--One of the main activities tying these events together will be the silent auction.

--Resources for the three types of events with basic budgets, structure, and ideas will be available for use on the google group (see below).

--On the event discussion list, there are many ideas being shared which will help facilitate events of all sizes.

Thank You to the following cities for signing on: Oahu, San Diego, Seattle, Monterey, and Chicago.

With the recent addition of Toronto, we are now officially a multinational event!

Why should I support Burners Without Borders?

Burners Without Borders is a grassroots, volunteer-driven, community leadership organization whose goal is  to unlock the creativity of local communities to solve problems and bring about meaningful change.  Founded by Burners (Burning Man participants) who instinctively gathered after Hurricane Katrina to help those who couldn't help themselves, BWB has grown into a dynamic, international, volunteer organization made possible by the generous financial support of the community and an army of highly creative volunteers.

This past year alone, Burners Without Borders  welcomed over 400 volunteers from all over the world to Pisco, Peru to support earthquake reconstruction efforts there.
BWB is constantly engaged in new projects that make a real difference, and their ability to be effective depends largely on donations to buy the materials needed to get the job done.

This is where we can help! Come out and support them for this multinational event on July 18th. Bring all of your friends!"

BWB's extremely low overhead means that any money donated goes directly to projects that make a difference.  All donations to Burners without Borders are tax-deductible via their fiscal sponsor, The Black Rock Arts Foundation.  Net proceeds of the Benefit Without Borders events will be donated to Burners Without Borders, with only a small percentage going to BRAF for accounting costs.

You can check out what BWB has been up to at www.burnerswithoutborders.org.

How can I get involved?

Involve your region in a benefit for BWB in your local area! By joining us for Benefit Without Borders, you will help rally your local area and help build community at the same time.  We need YOU to step up to the plate and make this event a day to remember. You will have the support along the way from many other communities to make this day a success.

Where can I find out more?

Check out the details at: www.benefitwithoutborders.com  If you want to *attend* an event in your areas, this is place for you! This site is in its infancy, so please check back often for new information.

If you want to assist in *running* an event in your area, you can sign up for the planning list here to stay in the loop:

http://groups.google.com/group/bwb-benfit (Yes, "Benfit". It's an old Arson Island throwback.) The google group is for the specific purpose of planning the events, and is for information and exchange of ideas with a specific twist on production.

Please join us on July 18th to connect the energy and creativity of your local community to this global event.

Kisses,

diem//regional emeritus, and lover of BWB

4. Stupidly sick breakbeats from Haaps, my favorite superhero lawyer dj.

Scott Haapala, aka Haaps, just put the finishing touches on "Natural Selection", his latest effort. It is pretty amazing, and the face melting beats are awesome. You know those mixes where you can't even tell there was a transition? That can be done by beatmatching and layering, the most common way, or the other way, by not only beatmatching and layering, but by changing the entire sound at the same time. This is really, really, REALLY hard to do, and when done right, it makes for a far superior mix. Happs filled the whole freakin' disc with Type 2 mixes. I am in awe. Make sure to PLAY IT LOUD. It's a hearty blend of dark beats, and moves on to break-hop. I want him at my next house party.

Also, should you find yourself in need of a lawyer on the east coast, he's awesome.

Here is a direct link for the wav file: http://themidnightsons.com/aud/haaps/Natural%20Selection.wav

If you want mp3 action all sliced and diced by track, wait a few days then go here: http://themidnightsons.com/page2/page4/mixhaaps.html

5. Giant spider invades Liverpool and fails to eat the soccer team

So, I am fan of art in all forms, but my favorite is giant art. Especially giant freakin' spiders controlled by thirteen French guys who only use levers to move it. You really, really ought to click this link -- it's good for your health:

6. diem wants to rock your body...

I want to play for you! I am ready to rock your party, and would love to play a house party somewhere...it's been to long since I played a living room packed to the hilt with people. Having a party? I'll come over :-)

I am putting the touches on a new mix, "Digital Whiskey Vol. 1", filled with trip-hop, downtempo, lounge, funk, soul, mash-ups, and love stories. Out soon -- I'll let you know!

7. Lighter of the Month Club -- Now in international flavour!

Lighter of the month club is insanely cool. i don't even  smoke and I am a member. Each month you get two lighters with heavy duty vinyl stickers of graphics made by Jeff Larson, one of my favorite artists. For you international folks (especially my Australian and Canadian subscribers), I pestered Jeff into making an international option -- so he will mail you stickers for $35.95 for the whole year! Seriously cool art, yo, and in your price range.

From Jeff:

Thank you for being a Lighter of the Month Club member.
It's been a whole year, and it's time to sign up again.
And remember, even if you don't smoke or just quit, these stickers can go on just about anything.

Because the lighters are my biggest production cost I've had to restructure the pricing system.
The PICK-UP-POINT membership (real lighters) is more expensive at $49.95 / year.
But the STICKERS-BY-MAIL option is now cheaper, only $29.95 / year.

As an added incentive to renew, there's a special offer this week that gets you a t-shirt with one of our most popular designs.
Please take a look at the following attachments for all the details, then go to www.lighterofthemonthclub.com to sign up.
-Jeff

8. Giant House for rent -- next door!

The house next door to us is for rent! It is a giant house, roughly 2600 sq ft. It is two stories, has five bedrooms, of which three are downright HUGE. It has a killer view of Seattle, and is available right now! You can call Theresa at 206-683-8731.
