Big Ass Clock, err, School House Rawk!

We were up laaaaaaaaate, who knows what time, and I started playing for the 17 people there. I got really into it, and was making the usual fool of myself, but this time, man, all 17 surrrounded the decks and made it just....perfect.

The now third place gig was opening for De La Soul in 1996 for 10,000. I'm sure I don't have to explain that one.

But this one....was something else. Chris and I started building the stage setup, a giant countdown clock, 20 feet across by 9 feet high, with the dj perched up top. I remember joking with Chris that we are the only ones in the city who were building their own stage for new years, and he laughed and smiled. Well, with Shawn Drew's kick-elf electrical skills, we had a giant countdown clock.

The night progresses beautifully, with Dj Stick yo hand in the dirt opening, Reggie Watts and Nordic Soul with Synthclub, and then having fauxfaux jump on with Chris--yay! It was the perfect setup--working hard to make the event, then being surrounded by your friends, and partying with the best talent in the city. My set was the best i could give, sweaty and pumpin', less on the latin, and heavy on the dirty bass. Thank you flight to mars for being part of my life! Yee haw!

Opening for Bassnectar was as much as fun as one would expect. I got a chance to help set up, and take a few pics as well as dj. The sound was through the legendary KV2, and during sound check I could literally feel my bones shaking. This grand gig was for Chrome Toast, at the new Fenix Underground, on Dec. 30th.

It was also, coincidentally, the first time I ever tried using my new Etymotic ear plugs, and they rock. If you're a dj -- get them. They cut 20db flat across the board!

This was the first of three holiday gigs, and was hosted by Michael Holden and Jen. Yeow...I think we were the only ones who escaped sober. This event was on Saturday the 23rd, a nice warm up to the holidays. His wrap up included a list of lost and found clothes, which when added up totaled three outfits. Ha!
